Married on Maui
February 20, 2025

Getting a group of people from Alaska to Maui sounds like a logistical headache. It is not — but it does take some coordination, and the details matter. This is the travel guide we share with every Alaska-based couple we work with, updated with current flight routes, pricing, and the things your guests actually need to know before they land.
Alaska Airlines runs direct seasonal service from Anchorage (ANC) to Kahului (OGG), typically from October through April. The flight is about 5.5 hours nonstop — shorter than most people expect. These are popular flights and they fill up, especially around the holidays.
Key booking tips for your guests:
Outside of direct-flight season (May through September) or from other Alaska cities, your guests will connect:
Groups of 10 or more can often get a group rate through Alaska Airlines or a travel agent who handles Alaska routes. We can connect you with agents we have worked with before. Even a 10% group discount across 20 guests saves $1,000 to $2,000 total.
Here is the good news: Alaska is only 1 to 2 hours ahead of Hawaii (depending on whether you observe daylight saving time). That means virtually zero jet lag. Your guests land in Maui feeling about the same as they did when they left. Compare that to East Coast guests who lose 5 to 6 hours — Alaska travelers have a real advantage here.
Tell your guests to book arrival flights at least 2 days before the wedding. Not because of jet lag, but because they need time to decompress, pick up rental cars, and settle in before the festivities start.
We match hotel recommendations to your ceremony location so nobody is driving more than 15 to 20 minutes on the wedding day:
For groups of 10+ rooms, we negotiate block rates with 2 to 3 hotels near your venue. Typical group discounts run 10 to 20% off standard rates. We set up a booking page so your guests can reserve under your wedding block with a few clicks.
For mixed budgets, we recommend pairing a resort block with a few vacation rental options in the same area. Everyone stays within a 10-minute drive of each other, but nobody is stretched beyond their budget.
This is the part that catches mainland visitors off guard: Maui does not have reliable Uber or Lyft outside of Kahului airport and Wailea. Your guests need rental cars.

For the wedding day itself, we arrange shuttle service between hotels and the venue so nobody has to drive or worry about parking after a few mai tais. This is included in our planning packages.
Coming from Alaska, the wardrobe transition is real. We build a custom travel page for every wedding that includes:
Your guests receive this page a month before the trip. It takes the "what do we need to know?" texts completely off your plate.
Here is the timeline that works best for groups traveling from Alaska:
Coordinating group travel from Alaska to Maui is one of the things we do most. Every wedding we plan includes a custom guest travel page, hotel block negotiation, shuttle coordination, and a timeline that accounts for travel fatigue. Your guests get everything they need, and you don't have to answer the same flight question 30 times.
